ABOUT AJAX

Named after a Battleship from World War II, the town's name of Ajax was decided by the workers in the largest shell filling plant in the British Commonwealth, located in this area. Populated by families employed by the war, to this day remnants of that time period can still be seen driving up Harwood Road above Hwy 401 with its small war-time homes.

After the war, the industry didn't stand still in Ajax, in fact, Dowty Aerospace opened in Ajax, which began the influx of industry. Dupont, Volkswagen Canada, Chrysler Canada, just to name a few followed suit making Ajax Ontario their home and creating thousands of jobs.

Ajax's proximity to downtown Toronto makes it an ideal location to live and commute. Economically booming, Ajax hosts some major shopping points, attracting people from all over Durham Region. It hosts 1 of only 2 Costco's in all of Durham Region, a casino, and several big-box shopping plazas. Dozens of restaurants, everything from Applebee's to The KEG, Ajax used to be the go-to town for major restaurant chains from all the surrounding communities. Ajax has 4 golf clubs, curling clubs, theatres, comedy clubs, 20 schools, a hospital and more. It's safe to say Ajax has everything you could possibly want or need in a community.

Home to dozens of local celebrities including, Cory Joseph, Point Guard for the Toronto Raptors, Glenn Healy former Toronto Maple Leaf, Charlotte Arnold, Degrassi Junior High and one time home to Rap Star/Singer SNOW - Darrin O'Brien. The tv series Falling Skies", a Steven Spielberg post-apocalyptic show was filmed on Westney Road at the Mercedes Dealership!

Much like other smaller cities in Durham Region, the transit system while available is not 100% as sophisticated as most cities. You will still need a vehicle to get around, but the Go Train is available and centrally located just off the 401. With the expansion of the 407 Ajax has more accessibility to downtown Toronto and the communities to the north, if you're willing to pay the sometimes-expensive charges.

Ajax boasts a gorgeous waterfront! Bike and walking trails span over 7 kilometers as part of the Trans Canada Trail that runs from Hamilton to Belleville. In the summer this area is the place to be for families, with swimmable beaches, huge parks for the children, volleyball nets and amazing cliff views. In minutes you can go from the beach to the farm to pick strawberries at Strouds Farms.

Yes, it's true, Ajax in the epitome of suburban life with many young families choosing to leave the big city and move east. The attraction is undeniable, quiet nights, move convenient shopping and larger more affordable homes....and we're pretty sure the famously lower property and auto taxes might have something to do with it too.
