ABOUT NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY

Northumberland County is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario east of Toronto. The county weaves together seven districts. The travel time by vehicle from Toronto is 1 ½ hours.  Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, Municipality of Brighton, Town of Cobourg, Township of Cramahe, Township of Hamilton Municipality of Port Hope and the Municipality of Trent Hills. The mayor of each town sits on the county council. The area was first settled in the late 18th century by United Empire Loyalists fleeing the former 13 British American Colonies.
 
There are two Provincial Parks in Northumberland, Presqu’lle Provincial Park in Brighton is famous for its camping with over 300 sites available and 2.5 km of sandy beach to enjoy! Nearby Ferris Provincial Park in Campbellford offers camping along the beautiful Trent River. Campbellford is the epitome of charming. It has everything from Farmers Markets to its own Brewing company, tea shops and country shops to fill your day. 
 
There are waterfront cottages and homes located on both Lake Ontario and Rice Lake. There are over 20 acclaimed walking, hiking, and nature trails along with ten recognized cycling routes. There are well-planned paddling routes to explore the Trent Severn Waterway and other activities such as golf or birding to keep you busy.

The area has three theatres, the Westben in Campbellford, the Capital Theatre in Port Hope, and the Park Theatre and Performing Arts Centre in Cobourg. Shopping is available in many unique boutiques along with fantastic local cafes and restaurants.  The area has many century homes, new homes, and cottages throughout the district.
 
Northumberland County has much to offer that family who wants to live outside of the city, enjoy nature and some historical charm.
