ABOUT NEWCASTLE

Rich in history and famous families, Newcastle is nestled on the shores of Lake Ontario. It has seen a lot of change since 1796, when Richard Lovekin came from Ireland and settled near where the Village of Newcastle would be born. Like every pioneer story, he came for the wild open country, farming and settling opportunities. For 215 years the Lovekin Family has lived on this original piece or settlement! Historically, this means, outside of Quebec, this family holds the longest tenure of property in Canada!

Home to such families as Joseph Atkinson who became the manager at The Toronto Star or the Baldwin family famously responsible in part, for bringing the responsible government to Canada. Generations of The Massey family are famous for manufacturing farm equipment. The Community Hall that was donated by the Massey Family remains in Newcastle to this day. Other landmarks such as Massey Hall Concert theatre in Toronto and The Hart House at the University of Toronto are all part of the Massey Family. Vincent Massey was sworn in as Governor-General of Canada in 1952.

Much more than its history, Newcastle has become the place that people dream of moving. For some, it's still feasible to commute to Toronto 82.6km about 1-hour drive on the 401, for others, it's the ideal place to retire. Newcastle was named one of the best places to retire by Comfort Life a web page dedicated to retirement living. To quote the magazine "Clarington municipality is rated highly by sources like MoneySense, noted for its high average family income, healthy growth and low crime. " ~

It's also a perfect quiet little town to raise your family. If you've always wanted that small-town feel without living hours outside of the main cities, Newcastle is only 18 km from the Oshawa downtown core and has 3 schools.

Many job opportunities exist nearby in Darlington, Oshawa, Courtice and Bowmanville, and The Ontario Power Generation is moving its headquarters to Clarington. Peterborough is closer than Toronto, driving will take you approximately 35 minutes. While there is no Go Train service to Newcastle, the Go Bus from the Oshawa Go Train Station leaves hourly.

Newcastle is once again seeing a change with many people choosing to move east for the quiet quaint lifestyle of its small town.

It's time to take a look at this small lake-front gem, either for your next real estate purchase or investment!
