ABOUT BOWMANVILLE

Settled over 200 years ago, the picturesque fertile farmland and creeks for watermills were what attracted British Loyalist pioneers to settle in what is now known as Bowmanville. Part of the Grand Trunk Railway in 1866, this small town has a big history.
With a largely Scottish population back then, by Confederation, this small town was prosperous and bustling with wealthy businessmen. One such Scot, John McKay opened The Cream of Barley Mill, whose cereals and products have been shipped all over the world.

Fast forward to the 20th-century, and major companies such as The Bowmanville Foundry and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company settled in Bowmanville. Goodyear even built affordable housing for its employees, these days known as Carlisle Ave.

Bowmanville was once home to Camp X a secret espionage and saboteur training base and a POW Camp, housing German prisoners during World War II.
Opened on the day before the Pearl Harbour attack, the main purpose was to train allied agents including the FBI. It's also rumoured that Ian Fleming, author of the James Bonds novels spent time at Camp X. The building, while covered in graffiti today, still stands and is a subject for many photographers and Instagram Selfie posts.

Bowmanville is a perfect blend of small-town charm with a bustling downtown core. It has all the amenities you need to live, work, and raise your family. One of the main employers in Bowmanville is the Darlington Nuclear Power Plant which supplies power to over 2 million people.

Bowmanville is not only a great place to live, but it's also a great place to play! Home to the Canadian Tire Motor Sport Park, you can watch the races or book a driving day for yourself in a Lamborghini or Corvette! The Archibald Winery and the Manatler Brewery make for a beautiful (delicious) retreat. For families, Port Darlington on Lake Ontario offers the gorgeous waterfront trail and parks. Rotary Park which was built in 1930 and is home to a War Monument honouring the town's fallen soldiers during WWII. In the summer the park is host to "Concerts In The Park" a tradition that's been happening since 1997, where visitors from June to August can sit back, picnic in the great outdoors and enjoy live music.

Cedar Park Resort is a family campground and water park established in 1955 and still going strong. Water slides, mini-golf, pools and more you can park your RV or choose to do a day trip instead!

If you choose to work in Toronto great news, by 2024 the Go Transit system has plans to establish a station in Bowmanville. Until then you may take local Durham Transit to the Oshawa Go Train, drive 25 kms on the 401, or depending on how far north you live the 407 is always an option.

There are 8 public Elementary Schools and 3 Catholic Elementary Schools and two Post Secondary schools. With its own hospital, downtown core and industry there really is very little reason to live anywhere else but Bowmanville.
